Counting with or without the start date
“Days between” two dates usually means the difference: from January 1 to January 3 is 2 days. When you count every calendar day in a period — for a trip, an event or a hotel stay — you include the start date, which gives 3.
Contracts and official deadlines can have their own counting rules. For important deadlines, check the rule that applies.

FAQ
Who is this date calculator for?
Office and admin staff counting days to a contract or application deadline, project and sales teams checking how many business days are left before a due date, students counting down to an exam, and anyone who wants the date of a milestone like “100 days from today”.
When is it useful?
For example, finding the date 30 days after you received a document, counting the business days until an invoice is due, counting how many calendar days a trip or stay covers, or checking which day of the week falls 100 or 365 days from today.
What are the benefits of using it?
No more off-by-one mistakes from counting on a calendar. Different month lengths and leap years are handled automatically, and you get days, weeks, years-months-days and business days (Monday to Friday) at once.
Should I include the start date?
It depends on how you count. From January 1 to January 3 is 2 days apart, but 3 days if you count every day on the calendar (a 3-day trip). Tick “Include the start date” for the second way.
Are holidays excluded from business days?
No. Business days here are Monday to Friday. Public holidays vary by country and region, so subtract them yourself if needed.
How does “days after” count?
The start date itself is not counted: 1 day after is the next day, and 100 days after is 100 days later. If you want the start date to count as day 1, enter one day fewer.
How should I count a legal or contract deadline?
Contracts and official deadlines can have their own counting rules. If the period starts the day after an event, leave “Include the start date” unticked; if every calendar day counts, tick it. For anything important, check the rule that applies.
How can I take my country’s holidays into account?
They are not excluded automatically. Count the business days here, then subtract any public holidays that fall on weekdays in that period. For “business days after”, add one more business day for each such holiday.
From which day are business days counted?
In “Days between dates”, counting starts the day after the start date (or on the start date if “Include the start date” is ticked) and runs through the end date. For business days after (or before), counting starts the day after (or before) the start date and skips Saturdays and Sundays.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. February 29 is counted correctly in every leap year.
What if the end date is before the start date?
The result is shown with a minus sign.
How is “In years, months, days” counted?
From the start date to the end date: full years first, then the full months left over, then the remaining days. “Include the start date” does not change this line.
How many days can I add or subtract?
Any whole number from 0 to 100,000. A larger or negative number shows “—”.
What does “Day of the year” mean?
It is the position of the resulting date in its year, counting January 1 as day 1. For example, December 31 is day 365, or day 366 in a leap year.
Are the dates I enter sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. You can pick dates with your phone’s date picker. On narrow screens, the results appear below the inputs.
