Notes are stored only in this browser and are never sent anywhere. Clearing your browsing data also deletes your notes, so use “Back up all notes” for anything important.
How to use
- 1. TypeJust start typing. No title needed: the first line becomes the note’s name.
- 2. It saves itselfEach change is saved in this browser. Close the tab and come back to pick up where you left off.
- 3. Take it with youCopy, download as .txt or share a link. Moving to another device? Use “Back up all notes”.
Where are my notes stored?
Your notes are kept in this browser’s own storage (localStorage). Nothing is sent to a server, so neither we nor other websites can read them. Anyone using the same browser on the same device can, though. The flip side is that they don’t appear on your other devices or browsers.
Clearing your browsing history and site data, or writing in a private window and then closing it, deletes your notes. Before switching devices, or just to be safe, use “Back up all notes” to save a .json file, then use “Restore from a backup” in the new browser.
FAQ
Who is this tool for?
It suits anyone who needs to jot something down quickly without installing anything: people on a work PC or school Chromebook where apps can’t be installed, people who don’t want to sign in anywhere, people who use a mix like Windows and an iPhone where notes don’t sync, anyone who wants to strip bold and colors from copied text, and writers and students who want a plain, distraction-free page.
When is it handy?
For example: taking notes during a meeting or call, collecting bits of text from the web in one place, drafting an email or post before copying it, pasting text from Word to remove its formatting, or sending a short piece of text to someone as a link.
What are the benefits?
It opens ready to type and there is no save button to remember. Close it and your note is still there next time. No account and no app, so it works on any device with a browser.
Are my notes sent anywhere?
No. Notes are stored only in this browser. Even when you create a share link, the text is compressed into the part of the link after the #, which never reaches the server. When a link is opened, the part after the # is removed from the address bar before analytics loads.
When is a note saved?
About 0.3 seconds after you stop typing, and again when you close the page. When the line below the note says “Saved”, it’s saved.
How many notes can I keep?
Up to 5 for free. With Premium you can keep up to 100. Auto-save, copy, .txt download and open, share links and backing up all notes are free for everyone.
Can I see the same notes on another computer or phone?
Not automatically, because notes live only in the browser where you wrote them. To move them, use “Back up all notes” to save a .json file, then “Restore from a backup” on the other device. For a single note, a share link works too.
What happens to notes I already have when I restore a backup?
Notes that are exactly the same (same title and text) are not added twice. If a note with the same origin has different text, it is added as a separate note, so you can also recover text you deleted by mistake.
What happens if I clear my browser history?
If you also clear site data (cookies and site storage), your notes are deleted. Notes written in a private or incognito window disappear when you close the window. Safari on iPhone and iPad deletes a site’s stored data after 7 days of Safari use without visiting the site (sites added to the Home Screen are counted separately). Back up important notes first.
What is a share link?
A link that carries the current note’s title and text, compressed inside the link itself. Whoever opens it can read the note and save it with “Save to my notes”. Anyone who has the link can read it, so don’t put passwords or other sensitive details in a shared note.
If I edit a note after sharing it, does the link change?
No. A link is a snapshot of the note at the moment you made it. To share your edits, press “Share link” again and send the new link. Very long notes may be too long for a link; download them as .txt instead.
Does a note opened from a link go into my notes?
Not by itself. It opens read-only. Press “Save to my notes” at the top to keep it as a new note (up to 5 on the free plan).
How do I delete a note?
Press “Delete this note”. It changes to “Press again to delete”; press it again within 3 seconds. Deleted notes can’t be recovered, so download a .txt first if you’re unsure.
What happens when I open a file?
The .txt or .md file you choose opens as a new note, so your current note is not overwritten. Files can be up to 1 MB. Files saved by Windows Notepad as “Unicode”, and older Japanese encodings (Shift_JIS), also open without garbled text.
How are characters and words counted?
Characters are counted as you see them, without line breaks, so an emoji counts as one. Words are counted with your browser’s word segmentation, which also works for languages written without spaces, such as Japanese.
What if I open the same note in two tabs?
Changes made in one tab show up in the other automatically. If you edit the same note in both tabs at the same time, the last one saved wins.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Switch notes with the menu at the top. The writing area grows to fit your screen.
What does “Couldn’t save” mean?
Your browser’s storage is full, or your browser settings block sites from saving data. Your text is still on screen, so copy it or download it as .txt first, then check your browser settings.
