    JPEG or WebP?

JPEGPhotos. Opens everywhereNo transparency (becomes white)
WebPImages for websites. Usually smaller than JPEG at the same qualitySome older software can't open it

    Getting files even smaller

Reducing the long side often saves more than lowering quality, without visible loss. Phone photos are often over 4,000 pixels wide; for the web or email, 1920 or 1280 pixels is plenty.

    FAQ

    Who is this tool for?

It suits bloggers, web editors and online shop owners who want lighter photos so pages load faster, anyone blocked by an email or upload form size limit, people who want to shrink a batch of large phone photos, and anyone compressing confidential images (nothing is uploaded).

    When is it most useful?

For example: before adding product photos to your shop, before putting several photos in a blog post, when an email with photos is too large to send, or when an upload form says the file is too big.

What do I gain from using it?

Lighter images make web pages load faster and make emailing and sharing quicker. You see the before and after sizes and the percentage saved right away, so it is easy to find the right quality. You can compress several images with the same settings at once.

    Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression happens in your browser. The contents of your images are never sent anywhere.

    What quality should I use?

For photos, around 70–80% usually looks the same while saving a lot of space. For images with text, 80% or higher keeps text sharp. You can choose from 10% to 100%; it starts at 80%.

What does “Max long side” do?

It sets the maximum length, in pixels, of the longer side of the image: 3840, 2560, 1920, 1280, 800 or 600. The proportions stay the same, and images that are already smaller are not enlarged. For the web or email, 1920 or 1280 usually makes files much smaller.
