Passwords are generated in this page with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues). Nothing is sent or stored.

    How to use

    1. 1. Set the lengthUse the slider or type a number. 16 characters or more is a good default.
    2. 2. Choose charactersUppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. Each type you pick appears at least once.
    3. 3. Copy and useClick “Copy” next to a password, or download them all as a .txt file.

How long should a password be?

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) recommends passwords of at least 16 characters, made of a random string of mixed-case letters, numbers and symbols.

This generator starts at 16 characters with uppercase, lowercase and numbers. Turn on symbols if the site allows them.

How much stronger does each character make it?

Strength here is measured in bits: length × log2(number of possible characters). Each extra bit doubles the number of guesses needed.

    Keep your passwords safe

CISA advises using a different strong password for every account, and a password manager to generate, store and fill them in for you.

    FAQ

Who is this password generator for?

It suits anyone signing up for a new account who doesn't want to invent a strong password, IT and office staff who need several starter passwords for new colleagues, people setting a Wi-Fi or router password, and anyone choosing a PIN who wants a truly random one.

    When is it useful?

For example, when a site asks for a certain length or for symbols, when a password has to be read aloud or written on paper and must avoid look-alike characters, or when you need a batch of passwords for a team and want them in a .txt file.

    What are the benefits?

Passwords we make up ourselves tend to follow patterns, such as names or birthdays. This page uses a cryptographic random generator, so you get a pattern-free password in a second, together with a strength estimate that helps you pick the length and character types.

Are my passwords sent anywhere or saved?

No. They are created in this page and never sent anywhere. The page doesn't keep them either, so reloading it gives you new ones. Copy or download the ones you use and keep them in a password manager.

    Are these passwords secure?

They are generated with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), which is designed to be unpredictable. They are never sent over the internet.
