Speaker Test (Left & Right)

Press “Left” or “Right” to play sound from that side only. With the guided check, just answer where you hear the sound and it tells you what is wrong.

Start at a low volume. The WHO (World Health Organization) recommends keeping your phone or device volume at no more than 60% of the maximum.

Check left and right

Pitch (low and high sounds)

Phase (wiring direction)

When you switch to “Out of phase”, the sound normally becomes blurry and spread out. If out of phase sounds clearer and more centered, the plus and minus wires of one speaker may be reversed.

    FAQ

    Who is this for?

Anyone checking that they can hear others before an online meeting, checking new earphones or speakers, or who thinks one side is quiet or silent, or that left and right are swapped in videos or games.

Left and right are correct here, but wrong in games or calls

If left and right play correctly on this page, your earphones, speakers and wiring are fine. Check that app’s sound settings, spatial (3D) audio settings and any headset settings software. In call apps, also check the output selected inside the app.

I press Left but hear it on the right

You may be wearing the earphones the wrong way round, or the speaker cables may be swapped. A left/right swap feature in your computer’s audio app may also be on.

I hear both sides whether I press Left or Right

“Mono audio” may be on in your device settings, or Bluetooth earphones may be connected for calls (hands-free). Devices with a single speaker also play the same sound on both sides.

    I can’t hear one side

Check the cable connection and your left/right balance settings. If it is the same on another device, the earphones or speaker may be faulty.

There is no sound at all

Check volume and mute, whether the browser tab is muted, and the output device (Bluetooth or monitor speakers). On phones, sound from web pages may not play in silent mode.
