FAQ
Who is this for?
Remote workers who want to check how they look before a Zoom or Teams meeting. Job seekers who want to check lighting and framing before an online interview. People who bought a new webcam and want to see if it delivers the resolution on the box. Streamers and creators who want to make sure the picture isn't choppy.
When is it handy?
When someone in a meeting says they can't see you, and you want to know whether it's the camera or the app. When you're trying different lights or seats to look better on camera. When you have several cameras and want to know which one is in use. No app to install and no meeting to join.
Is my video recorded or uploaded?
No. The picture is shown inside this page only. A photo is saved only when you press the button, straight to your device.
The picture is black. What should I check?
Look for a privacy shutter or a camera switch on your laptop, close other apps that use the camera, and make sure your browser and your computer allow camera access. The page shows the steps for Windows and Mac.
I wasn't asked for permission, or I clicked Block
Click the lock or settings icon next to the address bar, allow the camera for this site, then reload the page. If it still doesn't show, check that your computer lets your browser use the camera (the Windows and Mac steps are further down this page).
It says another app is using the camera
A camera often can't be opened while another app has it. Close apps that use the camera, such as Zoom, Teams or OBS, and try again.
Why is the picture mirrored?
Most video-call apps show you a mirror image of yourself. The button switches between “as you see yourself” and “as others see you”. The back camera on a phone starts without mirroring.
What resolution does my camera support?
The camera starts at 1280×720. Press “Test resolutions” and the page asks the camera for 640×480, 1280×720, 1920×1080 and 3840×2160 in turn, then shows what it actually delivered. Afterwards it goes back to 1280×720.
Why does “Highest resolution” show —?
The highest resolution is shown only when your browser reports the camera's capabilities. Some browsers don't, so use “Test resolutions” instead.
What is frames per second, and what does “choppy” mean?
It's the number of frames that actually arrived in one second. Below 15, the page says the picture is choppy. Add more light (cameras slow down in the dark), plug the camera straight into the computer, and close other apps that use the camera.
It says the picture is too dark or too bright
The page checks the overall brightness of the picture. If it's dark, put a light in front of you, not behind you. If it's too bright, move away from a bright window or turn down the light behind the camera. The check updates every half second, so the message clears as soon as it's fixed.
How is a photo saved?
Press “Take a photo” to save the current picture to your device as a PNG. It is saved the way you see it on screen, mirrored or not.
It works here but not in Zoom or Teams
If the picture shows here, the camera itself works. Check that the same camera is selected inside the app, and that your computer allows that app to use the camera. For Zoom, you can also try Zoom's official test meeting (linked on this page).
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Choose the front or back camera from the list if your phone shows both.
