Pixels and centimetres
An image’s size is a number of dots (pixels); its printed length depends on how many dots are placed per inch (2.54 cm), called dpi. For example, 3.5 cm wide printed at 300 dpi is 3.5 ÷ 2.54 × 300 ≈ 413 pixels.
FAQ
Who is this for?
People preparing photos for a blog or online shop, anyone making an image that must be “within N × N pixels” for an application, and anyone sizing images for social media or slides.
Does it cost anything?
No. No watermark and no sign-up. You can add up to 20 images at a time; more images and saving everything as a ZIP are Premium features.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Images are read and resized on this page, on your device.
What does “keep aspect ratio” do?
Enter only the width or the height and the other side follows the original shape. Enter both and the image is made as large as possible while fitting inside that box.
How do I get an exact size?
Untick “Keep aspect ratio” and enter both sides. Then choose: “Crop” keeps the centre and trims the edges, “Pad” fits the whole image and fills the rest with a colour you choose, and “Stretch” fills the box even if the shape changes.
How do I use mm or cm?
Choose mm or cm and enter the print resolution (dpi). Pixels = length ÷ 2.54 (for cm) × dpi. 300 dpi is common for printed photos.
Is the photo’s orientation and location kept?
Phone photos are turned the right way up. Information such as where the photo was taken (Exif) is not kept in the resized image.
What about quality?
You can choose the quality for JPG and WebP (90% to start). PNG keeps full quality. Making an image larger than the original can look blurry.
What if I want a smaller file, not smaller dimensions?
To reduce the file size rather than the pixel size, the “Image Compressor” tool is a better fit.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Choose photos, resize them and save.
