How to use
- 1. Pick the diceChoose how many dice (buttons for 1 to 6, or type a bigger number) and how many sides (D6, D20 and so on). It starts with one six-sided die.
- 2. RollPress “Roll” or tap the dice. Space or Enter rolls too. With two or more dice you also see the total.
- 3. Use notationType tabletop notation like 2d6, 1d100 or 2d6+1d8+3 and it rolls exactly that.
Common rolls
| Use | Setting or notation |
|---|---|
| Board games | One six-sided die (1d6) |
| Games that use the total of two dice | Two six-sided dice (2d6) |
| Tabletop RPG checks | 1d20, 1d100, 2d6 and so on |
| Probability lessons | Roll 1d6 many times and look at the counts |
How fair is it?
Phones and computers have a random number generator strong enough for cryptography. These dice use it, so every face has the same chance.
Rolling the same number twice in a row is just chance. The more you roll, the closer the counts get to each other.
FAQ
Who is this for?
Families who want to play a board game but can't find the dice. Tabletop RPG players who roll things like 2d6 or 1d100. Teachers and students who want to count the results of many rolls in a probability lesson. Anyone who needs a quick, fair way to decide who goes first.
When is it handy?
When a die has gone missing halfway through a board game. When you play over a video call and share your screen. When an RPG needs a d20 or a d100 you don't own. When you put it full screen on a classroom projector so everyone can see the roll.
Is it really random?
It uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), so every face has exactly the same chance. Random values that would leave an uneven remainder are thrown away and drawn again, so no face is slightly favored. Earlier rolls never affect the next one.
Are my rolls sent anywhere?
No. The dice are rolled in this page. Your dice settings, notation, the last 50 rolls and the counts are saved only in this browser. Press “Clear history” to delete them.
How many dice can I roll?
Up to 100 dice at once, with anywhere from 2 to 1,000 sides. With notation like 2d6+1d8, the dice together can't go over 100.
What does 2d6 mean?
Roll two six-sided dice. The number before the d is how many dice, the number after it is how many sides. 1d100 is one hundred-sided die, and 2d6+3 adds 3 to the total. You can mix dice and subtract too, as in 2d6+1d8-1. Upper or lower case both work, and spaces are ignored.
What are the counts of each number and each total for?
When you roll the same kind of die many times, it shows how often each number came up (for one kind of die, up to 20 sides, with no added numbers). With two or more dice you also get the count of each total, so a class can see that 7 is the most common total with 2d6. Changing the dice starts a new count.
How do dice other than D6 look?
Six-sided dice show pips like a real die (the 1 is red). Other dice show the number, with the number of sides, such as D20, in small type in the corner. When you roll more than six dice, they are drawn smaller.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. On a narrow screen the dice and the Roll button sit at the top, so you can roll right away. Notation and history open in a panel that slides in from the right. Tapping the dice rolls them too.
Can I show it full screen?
Press “Full screen” to make the dice and the total big, which is handy in a classroom or at the game table. Notation and history are still available from the slide-in panel. If your browser doesn't support full screen, the button is hidden.
Can I turn the sound off?
Yes. Press “Sound: on”. The rattle is generated in the browser, not played from a file, and the setting is remembered in this browser. If your device is set to reduce motion, the dice don't shake and the result appears right away.
Can I send a roll to someone?
There is no share link for rolls. Select and copy the text in the history, or go full screen and show your screen.
