Remove PDF Metadata
Add PDFs to see the author name, title and other information inside. Press “Remove hidden info” to take out only that information; the pages stay the same.
Your PDFs are processed on this page only. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use
- 1. Add PDFsDrop them on the box or click to choose. Add up to 20 at once. You'll see the author, title, software, dates and other information inside each one.
- 2. RemovePress “Remove hidden info”. The result is read again to check that nothing is left.
- 3. SaveSave each PDF, or press “Save all”. File names get “_clean” added.
You can also remove it in Word or Excel
Word, Excel and other Microsoft 365 apps have a Document Inspector that removes the author and other information (File → Info → Check for Issues → Inspect Document). If you remove it before making the PDF, it won't be in the PDF either. When you only have the PDF, or you're passing on a PDF you received, you can remove it here.

FAQ
Who is this for?
Anyone sending quotes, reports or other PDFs outside their company who wants to remove the creator's name or internal file names first. Anyone who made a PDF from someone else's template and wants to check that person's name isn't left inside.
What information is inside a PDF?
The author name, title, subject, keywords, the software that made it, the software that turned it into a PDF, and the dates it was created and changed. PDFs made in Word and similar apps can include the name of the computer account as the author. The title can be an internal file name.
How do I clean PDF metadata?
Drop up to 20 PDFs on the box to see the author, title, software, dates and other information inside. Press “Remove hidden info”; the result is read again to check that nothing is left. Then save each PDF or press “Save all”.
What is “old information left by saves”?
A PDF can be saved by adding changes to the end of the file instead of rewriting it. Then, even if the author was changed, the earlier author name can still be inside the file. This page drops old data that nothing uses any more and saves the file again, so old names are removed too.
Does the PDF look different afterwards?
No. The text and images on the pages are not re-made; only the hidden information is taken out.
What happens to comments?
The comments themselves stay. Only the name of the person who wrote them and the date are removed.
How do you check that it's really gone?
The cleaned PDF is opened again with two different readers. It counts any author and other information, XMP (a second copy of the author and other details), names on comments and old information left, looks for the original names anywhere in the file, and checks the page count. Every page is also drawn before and after and compared, to make sure nothing looks different. If anything is left or looks different, saving is blocked.
What about digitally signed PDFs?
They work, but removing the information changes the file, so the digital signature will no longer be valid. If a PDF needs a signature, remove the information before signing.
What about password-protected PDFs?
PDFs protected with a password can't be used. Remove the password first.
What happens to attachments?
Files attached to the PDF are kept. If there are attachments, you'll see a note in the list.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. PDFs are read in this page and cleaned on your device.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up. You can add up to 20 PDFs at a time; more at once and saving everything as a ZIP are Premium features.
